Wale appeared at The White House earlier this week to speak on a panel for Michelle Obama’s Beating The Odds summit, which aims to help teenagers make the transition from high school to college.
Over 130 students were in attendance to listen to the speech from the FLOTUS, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Brown University student Manuel Contreras, and the MMG rapper.
Wale was briefly enrolled at Virginia State and Robert Morris University before he dropped out. He told the teenagers that college helped him “take the training wheels off” and allowed him to have more time to figure out what he wanted to do.
President Obama also made an appearance at the event, giving those in attendance words of encouragement before snapping a picture with Wale. “My rapping skills are terrible,” Obama said. “That’s one thing I can’t do is rap. I like rap but I cannot rap.”
