Tyga claims his days with YMCMB are numbered.
The young West Coast rapper put his label on blast via Twitter today where he revealed his new project The Golden Album: 18th Dynasty, which is slated for a November 18th release, is finished, but that Birdman and company won’t put any of the material out. He also said they are “holding him hostage” and threatened to leak the album himself so they can’t earn money from it.
When asked if he was still with Young Money, the label mate of Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Drake, and others responded “not for long.” Despite having released two LPs with the company, Careless World: Rise of the Last King and Hotel California, Tyga added that the only thing he reps is his brand Last Kings.
This isn’t the first time he aired his grievances either.
In 2013, Tyga told The Breakfast Club that he has never received a royalty check from YMCMB. “I never got a check from Young Money or Cash Money, I’ve always treated my career as independent and everything that I’ve got is because of myself, my own endorsements.”
This news comes after Busta Rhymes decided to part ways with the label earlier this year over “creative differences” and Mystikal announcing he wants out of his contract.
A couple weeks back Tyga teased his new single “40 Mill,” co-produced by Kanye West and Mike Dean. Although Ye is listed as executive producer on Tyga’s album we still haven’t heard the full song, so fans will have to sit tight on that as well.
UPDATE: It seems that Tyga’s departure from YMCMB might not be his idea, as previously assumed. DJ Enuff reports that the “Rack City” artist may have been dropped by his label over disagreements with Lil Wayne.
A source close to the situation had this to say:
“Lil Wayne thinks that it’s disgraceful that Tyga is possibly dating Kylie Jenner, who is the same age as his oldest daughter Reginae. Reginae and Kylie are actually friends.”
“Wayne thinks it’s a bad example for his daughter, who is in the music business, and surrounded by rappers.”
Kylie and Tyga have been in the studio working on a few songs together, which are also featured on the album, but Lil Wayne is blocking Tyga from releasing those cuts.
“Tyga’s been recording music with Kylie, he’s hoping to make her a star, but Wayne won’t release any of Tyga’s features on her tracks. Wayne basically put a VETO on Kylie and Tyga’s singing/rapping careers,” the insider claims.“Tyga is upset and trying to leave, he thinks that Lil Wayne is holding up his music, which is true.
UPDATE #2: Tyga continued to share his distaste for YMCMB and his label mates in a recent interview with VIBE.
Is Young Money a part of the creative process on this album?
Nah. I tend to distance myself from them.
Are you trying to break out on your own?
Yeah, I’m tryna’ go independent. I don’t really get along with Drake. I don’t really get along with Nicki.
I don’t like Drake as a person. He’s just fake to me. I like his music; you know what I’m saying? I think his music is good, but we’re all different people. We were forced together and it was kinda’ like we were forcing relationships together. It is what it is. But I been friends with Chris [Brown] for like six years. That’s my real genuine friend. We hang out all the time. He lives up the street from me, so we don’t just do music we hang. I think being signed to Young Money, everybody felt like they had to force a relationship ‘cause Wayne put us together. At the end of the day the reason why I signed to Young Money is because of Wayne. Not because of Drake, not because of Nicki. It was because of Wayne and my relationship with him. I try to be cool with everybody, but sometimes, everybody just has different personalities, motives, and different characters. When you realize that, you realize that’s not a place where you want to continue to grow.
UPDATE #3: Tyga, Drake, and Blac Chyna continued the beef last night.
After Kylie Jenner posted a picture with Tyga in their Halloween costumes, inspiring Blac Chyna to like one of Drizzy’s Instagram pictures, Tyga got upset and tweeted negative comments about his ex. Drake responded by posting an image of Kylie from his “Recognize” video shoot with PARTYNEXTDOOR. Things continued even further when Blac Chyna posted two photos of her chest and tagged Drake in them, which resulted in her Twitter account getting hacked, apparently by Tyga.
